TODAY'S TOPIC: BATHING YOUR DOG

DEAR DR. DAN: DO I NEED TO GIVE MY DOG A BATH EVERY WEEK? -- ANGELA

DEAR ANGELA: NORMALLY, DOGS SHOULD NOT BE BATHED MORE THAN ONCE TO TWICE A MONTH. IF THEY ARE BATHED MORE FREQUENTLY THERE IS A RISK OF DRYING THE SKIN AND/OR COAT. THIS DRYNESS MAY RESULT IN FLAKY, RED SKIN AND THE DOG MAY SCRATCH EXCESSIVELY BECAUSE OF THE DRYNESS.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO USE A SHAMPOO THAT HAS BEEN FORMULATED FOR DOGS.
